We're so pleased to complete 2009 with a record number of new Green Map projects - 119 new locally-led efforts got underway, a 33% increase in the rate of registrations. A number of factors contribute to this increase:
• more people realizing they can and must take leadership locally for climate protection, sustainability and a healthier environment.
• the Open Green Map, our new social mapping platform that removes the financial, technological and time barriers to publishing an interactive, always available Green Map. read more »

Finale's not really the right word, as it's not really over. The official side may always be mired in the muck, but the rest of us are already moving forward, with new cross-cultural alliances, new social innovations, new tools and fresh energy. read more »

read more »

Taking part in perhaps the most important demonstration in human history, I felt both exhilarated and humbled. Marching with my husband Ray and our Danish friend Ulla, my spirits were buoyed by the crowd's colorful signs and the many marching bands that accompanied us, but the march's message is grave and utterly serious. read more »

My third day was quite busy, good thing we had bikes to get around to everything. Riding in this city is very easy!
The images all have complete captions (click Notes to see them) but basically, after a breakfast meeting, we went through the center to meet with Copenhagen Green Mapmakers at the Agenda 21 inner city office and the design museum, then off to Christiania to experience the Climate Bottom, had dinner with our homestay hosts, then to a partyboat and theater for events, then back by the ice (polar bear) to see if it was still melting. I am still processing all that I met with that day!

Each Student devotes ten hours each week to service with Laughlin Memorial Chapel in their after-school and at the Catholic Neighborhood Center where they assist with prison ministry, visiting shut-ins, and preparing meals. Arrived in the evening and staying with New Yorkers Bill Di Paola and Laurie Mittlemann of Time's Up and Ray Sage of Pioneer Valley Organic Farm at a marvelous 200 year old home in the center of Copenhagen. With just a couple of hours to mix it up, we went to the tail end of Green Drinks then wondered into the Klimaforum. This giant globe in the City Hall square crowns energy exhibits and gives off a sense of urgency and hope. The lighted tree is bike powered!read more »

I'm just about ready to leave the office, and looking forward to meeting and working with a wide range of people involved in CO2 emissions reduction and climate healthy living converging at the United Nations COP15 event in Copenhagen.
Although I won't be there throughout the whole 10 days, I expect to learn quite a bit at the Green Mapmaking panel and our other events, listed on our COP15 page.
I'm using miles, not money, to pay for the flight. I have a homestay so thanks to my host and the many civil society groups who have set up meal venues around the city, this trip is costing very little, none of which is coming from Green Map's budget (except our outreach postcards and maps). I'll find a good way to offset the CO2 from my flight, too, and report back later.
So see you in Copenhagen! I'll be on a rented bike with the sticker below, and at all the events listed here, so watch for me there!

The 24 November 2009 was the launch of the print version of the Cape Town Green Map - a user-friendly, handy guide that makes green choices both accessible and meaningful.
The print map is a fresh take on the Mother city's natural environment, reminding visitors and residents to live, work and play responsibly in order to reduce human impact on our fragile ecosystems.
Whilst the website is a dynamic and interactive way to engage with 'green Cape Town', the print map is an easy-to-hold snapshot in time for easy reference. All of the sites have been handpicked from a far greater availability on the online version of the map – not an easy task, considering there are now over 250 of them.read more »
