About this Map

This Green Map was published in August 2002. Hamilton City Council and Community Environmental Programme also created new symbols for gully networks (where rivers have cut gashes into the land, now biodiverse but neglected), Maori cultural sites, and enviro-schools. Green Map Icons have been grouped like the Hamilton City Council Strategic Plan. This project had a fresh start in early 2002, under the leadership of Debra Emmett, a member of Hamilton Community Environmental Programme, and Liz Bell, Environmental Projects Officer with the Hamilton City Council -- and voila! just a few months later, the project went public. Thanks also to Heidi Mardon, the original initiator of Hamilton's Green Map.
