Green Map Renewal and Growth – Summer 2007

Summer 2007 Update

It’s been a year of renewal at Green Map System! From our website to our mission statement to our tools and blog, you’ll find a fresh new look, more in-depth content and, as always, the inventive engagement of Green Map projects going strong in over 400 places in 50 countries. Take part in this exciting phase of expansion and reinvention!

One Planet - One Visual Language

Currently, we’re making our award-winning iconography match updated concepts of sustainability and the diverse types of green living, ecological, social and cultural initiatives being charted around the world. After many months of global discussion and development, we are starting to wrap up Version 3 of the Green Map® Icons. The next phase will be an open review designed for public comments and suggestions. Watch for a link on our homepage and help us achieve the best possible outcomes!

Highlights of the Season

Our website was re-launched on May 30! Now, our homepage displays the freshest maps, news and projects, and we’re thrilled by the ease with which Green Maps and related profiles can now be explored, how elements are automatically funneled into theme pages, and how quickly our website’s audience has expanded!

Next, GreenMap.org was made more accessible to Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian visitors with a ‘navigator’ that collects profiles, blogs, articles, tools, even registration for new Mapmakers in a single convenient page for each language. Coming up: new ways for the public to get involved in GreenMap.org’s continual evolution!

Our director recently traveled to Asia to meet with Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai and Indonesian Mapmakers. In addition to helping national Hubs in the region grow stronger, our training sessions, presentations and best practice exchanges in Shanghai, Tongli, Beijing and Taipei successfully involved the wider public, supporters and media. Special thanks to our Hub leaders and Delta Electronics Foundation.

NYC’s Green Apple Map is the local project created by the global Green Map System office. Currently in the works: field trip-based energy in the environment education modules and the Green Schools Green Map! Help these new projects come to fruition!

Keep Up with our News!

In the Media includes coverage from many corners of the globe, and check the calendar for upcoming Green Map events. The newest maps (like Dear Green Place, the first citywide Glasgow Green Map, a great guide to reuse) and projects from Squamish Canada (site of the 2010 Olympics) to Burning Man (the world’s largest ‘leave no trace’ event) to Toulouse France to Hudson Valley New York are linked there too.
