Introduction

About this Map

The Greater Columbus Green Map made its debut at Earth Day 2005. It has wonderful features and a large scale to appreciate the hundreds of sites it features! It won the 2005 American Graphics Design Award from Graphic Design - USA, a magazine for graphic designers !

Behind the Greater Columbus Green Map is the Greenways Program at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. Erin Miller, Andrea Gorzitze and a number of GIS interns are charting the greater Columbus area, with the help and input of local watershed and other community groups. Their emphasis is on green infrastructure and green community resources. Check their website at www.greatercolumbusgreenmap.org for information.

In 2006, 9 Fit & Healthy Green Maps were published, helping people use the parks, bike paths and other resources in the city increase their options for healthy living. Charted by zipcode, this is a unique application of the Green Map concept, created in partnership with Children's Hunger Alliance and focused on areas of areas with high levels of poverty and obesity.

In 2007, a new edition of the conty-wide map is being published. Our best wishes to recently-departing director Andrea Gorzitze, and all the best to Erin Miller in her new leadership role. This project has been a tremendous support to Green map System over the years!
