"What about Cultural Heritage?"
The aim of this workshop is to rethink the way we deal with our cultural heritage. Can we find strategies to vitalize these cultural heritage places into urban spaces that are part of peoples daily realm in a very active way. In a way that those places are not only to remember (monumentum) as a historical artefact but are even part of the public Space in the daily life.
The final result of each group exists of a proposal (design, video, collage) that gives an solution for transforming the cultural heritage site into a public space that’s adopted in peoples daily life.
This workshop was held in Yogyakarta, January 6, 2008. Krijn Christiaansen, artist and designer from Nederland conducted the workshop as his project on Cemeti Studio Residency's Program (Landing Soon #5 - www.cemetiarthouse.com). Krijn in collaboration with Green Map Yogyakarta, successfully invited 21 students from different background as the participants. Divided in three groups, they made a proposal - design of the heritage cluster (Ambarukmo, Northern Alun-Alun of Kraton Yogyakarta, and Tamansari Watercastle), based on their survey and interview. We planned to continue the workshop as the Green Map project.
