Our low cost resources are a boon to communities worldwide, and with our newest participatory website, we are now creating our own sustainability 'stimulus package'! 2008 Highlights!
By October, 2008's new Mapmaker registrations exceeded all previous years, when the 500th project milestone was reached! Green Map teams and their leaders in 54 countries have access to all our adaptable tools for making 'traditional' local Green Maps and now, are the first to use our exciting, inclusive new mapmaking platform. OpenGreenMap.org, our social mapping platform-in-progress already displays 36 Green Maps from a dozen countries! You can explore them today, and get a preview of what's being built before the official launch in Spring by clicking In Progress on the top menu. Already having a powerful and transformative effect, the Open Green Map website makes it easy for the public to find, get involved with and enhance each site on the map! With this online resource's great sharing potential, 2009 offers marvelous opportunities to stimulate involvement in sustainable community development everywhere! Green collar jobs! A record 23 people worked with our staff, many as interns and volunteers. Mentoring the next generation of sustainability leaders is central to our efforts.
Honors
In 2008, the Open Green Map platform was recognized by the NetSquared Challenge and Tele Atlas Maps in Apps competitions. Green Map System ranked in the Top Ten in America's Giving Challenge, and Eyebeam honored our new iconography.
Over 150 articles and blogs have been published (see linked articles and testimonials online). Delighted to respond to requests for presentations, Green Map staff traveled to Victoria BC Canada, Seoul South Korea, Santiago Chile, Bucharest Romania, Milan Italy, Washington DC, Montana, the San Francisco Bay area and throughout the New York metro area.
