Finale's not really the right word, as it's not really over. The official side may always be mired in the muck, but the rest of us are already moving forward, with new cross-cultural alliances, new social innovations, new tools and fresh energy.
And now, relishing time to read over the great materials I brought home, I am still incredibly hopeful. Will the participants who worked so hard to produce statements, presentations, art exhibits, bike parties, dinners, demonstrations, homestays, cross-cultural meetings and the warm hospitality we experienced ever feel downhearted about the outcomes?
No, because the flawed agreement was not put in place, leaving room for a truly equitable global agreement to take shape. It's time to bring forth a new vision for how we can live in the future with justice, sufficiency, dignity, for all forever. We need to consider the whole system rather than fragmented problems of greed, peak water/soil/oil/hunger, the chaotic climate, species loss, social inequity and alienation.
With 2020 Hindsight looming into focus, make 2010 your year of foresight and personal transformation.
