Cocoa Florida Green Map

Introduction
Exploring Green Living in a Near-Coastal Community
About this Map

We will construct the Cocoa Florida Green Map as a student project at Clearlake Middle School in Cocoa, Florida. Seventh and eighth graders will learn what it means "to go green", and what impact that decision may have on our lives. The analysis that the subject requires, and the research the students do in their own community will provide a rich learning opportunity, giving all the ability to participate. The map creation affords opportunities to exercise higher order thinkining skills; ie., analyzing, classifying, synthesizing, discovering, exploring and communicating about their map making experiences. They will be involved in a world-wide venture to map sites relative to sustainable living.

In our area, water pollution of the aquifer is a large concern - as well as concerns with sea turtle and game fish populations. Our work will center around discovering green living sites in Cocoa Florida, and also focus on water and nature related concerns.

We are inspired and awed at the work of others around the world and would also like to ocntribute our efforts. We desire to know what it means to "go green", leave a smaller "carbon footprint", and create sustainability.
