Shibukawa City in Gunma Prefecture Japan has a Green Map project underway, with university technical advisor Morihiko Murakami and the Shibukawa Kankyo Forum (Shibukawa Environmental Forum) leading the effort.

The Tokyo Cycling Green Map was created to encourage development of a bike lane network and safer riding by Urban Ecology Tokyo and volunteers since 2006. The first printed citywide version was published in January 2007. There is also an interactive online edition in Japanese or in English that anyone can add green sites to and use to get involved in creating a better environment for cycling in this metropolis.

We create Green Map around Chikuma River/Mt. Asama painting festival with children. We are thinking about building up digital data of the map, and after that, publishing Komoro Green Map for educational purpose at each school in the city.

Past Mapmakers

Peace and ecology after 1945 are the themes of the Green Map of Hiroshima, Japan, which is being created by Shoichiro Sendai, Associate Professor and his students at Laboratory of Architectural History & Design Theory, Hiroshima University. Youth, adults and elders work together on this project, called the Ecopeace Map. In early 2004, their wonderful and innovative Green Map was published.
