About the Map:

Dubai Green Map is a primary effort toward highlighting and promoting green living and practices among citizens, residents and tourists of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. United Arab Emirates plays a vital and impressive role in the region, by adopting and promoting humanitarian and environmental acts and practices. For several decades, leaders of the country gave all effort to protect the environment for future generations, and dedicated all available resources to promote environment sustainability education and practices among their people and the international society. Dubai is turning green; in fact, during the last few years of the city urban development, through all aspects, many steps and measures have been taken by authorities, proving their environmental concerns, and interest in environment sustainability, protection and contribution to the world combat against climate changes. Dubai is a unique city, very rich and diversified in population nationalities, cultures and interests. Its geographic location and insightful rulers' futuristic vision made it a strategic crossroad between East and West, and a civilizations blending place as well. Dubai Green Map project is intended to draw the attention of people living in Dubai and its visitors, to the importance of many Green sites and attractions of the city, the need to expand Green areas and applications, and the positive impacts of Green practices over the city’s environment and future generations healthy and sustainable living. Green Maps of other parts of the country will hopefully follow in the near future.

About the Map:

The Portsmouth Green Map was conceived and created as a partnership between Portland Green Map, a citywide community mapping organization, Portsmouth Vision 20/20, a community development organization located in the Portsmouth Neighborhood, and the Science Club at Portsmouth Middle School. Over the course of several months, students at Portsmouth Middle School used GIS (Geographic Information System) software to create maps of their neighborhood that incorporate environmental assets and special features. This is the product of their work, a map of Portsmouth neighborhood, for the Portsmouth neighborhood, created by the students of Portsmouth Middle School. This map is meant to show Portsmouth Neighborhood residents interesting information about environmental sites in and around the neighborhood. The icons, which have been used on Green Maps all over the world, mark the locations of certain types of sites in the neighborhood, from good places to see the autumn leaves to local contaminated sites.

About the Map:

The Manningham-Nillumbik Green Map has been launched as a website that is slowly evolving as it gathers eco-cultural information about the shires of Nillumbik and Manningham in North-east Melbourne, Australia. Progress is a little slow as we are all volunteers. We see this project as having two parts - the website and a community engagement process. The website is live and on Wednesday evening 28 May 2008 we are running our first 2020 Community Conversation. 1. About the Community Conversation There are lots of people, businessowners, volunteers, council officers and MPs working hard for both the community and the environment BUT we all know some efforts are duplicated. On the 28th we want to get together as many representatives of all facets of the community as possible, on an equal footing, to work out what we value in Manningham-Nillumbik, are there any issues that stand out and what we might do about these, with a view to keeping people informed by publishing info on the Green Map website. The evening will be run by Deirdre Downie of Insight Now, a facilitator experienced in using the World Cafe Process, which is "an innovative way to access the collective wisdom of a group and bring about new possibilities for action". The Green Map website aims to record the life we enjoy today in the hope of preserving the lifestyle for our children and grandchildren...about balancing 'people/planet/profit. 12 Categories will provide information about: -Art, Culture, History and Lifestyle -Built Environment and Infrastructure -Eco-development and Green Business -Events -Food -National/State Parks, Reserves and Gardens -Information and Institutions -Nature and Wildlife -Outdoors and Active -Pollution -Transport -Waste prevention, Re-use and Recycling The website has an umbrella name www.greenmapcommunity.org.au. We hope that in future other Neighbourhood Houses or community groups will join us in the Green Map process, listing their community's eco-cultural assets as a tool for sustainable development. About the Map:

Nishinomiya-kofu senior high school students charted their campus and the city of Nishinomiya and Imazu Area. On Nov. 9th, 2002, the Nishinomiya Green Map was displayed at Nishinomiya Kofu Senior High School's Cultural Festival. Using the Nishinomiya Green Map as a reference, the "Geographic Information" class was able to reproduce it in a digital format and available in a website.

About the Map:

This map is our first attempt to publish our green sites online, and we are happy to do so by using the OpenGreenMap test site. We hope that putting our sites up there will inspire the community to add more by pointing out what we have missed (suggest a site through our website www.rocklandgreenmap.org). At this point we think publishing a map online only is the most environmental and practical alternative, but we are also planning a poster map for outreach and display. If we find the time and possibly a volunteer designer (web or map/graphic) we think we can get a map out this summer. About Rockland County Rockland County is part of the suburban regions around NY City where you get the best out of two worlds; the close proximity to the city is balanced with the vast expanses of park and farmland. Rockland County has the second largest state park, Harriman, and has a good amount of green space considering it is so close to the city and considering it is a small county. However, this region currently experiences population growth, which puts pressure on the existing green areas, undeveloped land, and infrastructure. We think a green map here would inspire people to take care of our green resources.
