About this Mapmaker

Edmonton Green Map will increase awareness of Edmonton’s green economy and make it as easy as possible for community members and visitors to access Edmonton’s green economy and to ‘think local first’ by supporting sustainable choices.

Statement of Purpose

Edmonton is Alberta’s capital city. Edmonton’s ‘River of Green’, the North Saskatchewan River Valley, is the largest stretch of urban parkland in North America. In addition to the rich opportunities for outdoor recreation, Edmonton also has a vibrant arts and culture scene. There are also many initiatives and projects aimed at highlighting and promoting local, resilient economies and green living. Edmonton’s Green Map will help community members and visitors discover green living, nature, and culture in the city. The Edmonton Green Map Project will contribute to Edmonton’s journey towards becoming a sustainable and resilient city.

The mapmaking team will aim to make the Edmonton Green Map a collaborative and community-based project. We are excited about using the Open Green Map as a tool to get the community involved in the process of producing and enriching the Edmonton Green Map. In addition to our core team of mappers, we envision creating an on-line community for the entire mapmaking team that will be self-sustaining.

Once we have seeded the initial map, focusing on Edmonton’s green economy, we will turn our attention to engaging community members in the mapping process. Local communities throughout Edmonton will help to identify and map sites related to sustainable living, nature, and culture and society.
