The Parys and Vredefort Dome area of the northern Free State province is special for several reasons. Not only is the topography simply stunning while boasting one of South Africa’s eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites (the Dome), but anyone who has visited, passed through or lived here can attest to its immeasurable charm. If ever there were a place where one could stop for a moment, take in the surroundings and truly feel as if time stood still, it is the Parys and Vredefort Dome area.

While tourism stakeholders recognise the importance of developing the area’s infrastructure and systems in order to better support a tourism product, such processes take time and require constant dialogue to ensure its positive growth.

My hope is that by developing a comprehensive Green Map of the area, one that champions the natural resources alongside local businesses, it can serve as one step toward both preserving the city/landscape and protecting her future.
