Statement of Purpose

GeoGreen Mapper - A Participatory Interactive Green Map for Alachua County, Florida

The GeoGreen Mapper is an interactive Green Map for Alachua County. The GeoGreen Mapper provides live access to over forty five geographic datasets on green infrastructure and green living and to related countywide studies. Significant environmental and cultural resources are grouped in three categories:

* green pathways (trails, bicycle facilities, low speed roads for electric cars, bus routes, bus stops, etc.)

* conservation/recreation (preservation lands, strategic ecosystems, priority ecological areas, etc.)

* cultural/green living (farmer markets, community gardens, recycle centers, thrift stores, historic structures, used book stores, etc.)

Local Language Overview

GeoGreen is a database driven participatory web mapper. It provides for public mapping of Green Buildings connecting live to the Alachua County’s Building Permits database. Anyone can enter a permit number and either upload a scanned image of their Green Building Certificate or enter key words which identify 'greeness' of their building. After the upload, they can immediately view their building location plotted live on GeoGreen. Upon validation of this info by county staff, GeoGreen will continue to show the location of this Green Building as part of the countywide Green Buildings database.

GeoGreen also displays locations of Solar Panel permits issued over the years by Alachua County. The Solar Panel layer updates in real time as Solar Panel permits are being issued by county staff.

GeoGreen has been designed to be used by residents of all ages and backgrounds interested in local green resources and in how they overlay. They could be community groups and grass root organizations active in conservation practices, county advisory boards of various missions, teachers and students, developers, re-developers, home owner builders, realtors and lenders, advocates of affordable housing and poverty reduction, and Alachua County staff.
