Situated at the center of the High Sierra and at the southern end of California ’s Gold Country, Mariposa County is a sacred place of beauty and history. It is the home of Yosemite National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and home to the South Sierra Miwok people.

Mariposa County is also called California's, "Mother of Counties." It initially encompassed one fifth of the state of California, but as the land filled with settlers, boundaries were redrawn until twelve present day counties emerged from the vast area. Mariposa is now California's sixth smallest county but it still retains a legacy that includes an incredible range of landscapes and a heritage of historic sites, events and culture.

BETTER TOGETHER MARIPOSA is undertaking a community project to map our environmental and cultural richness and to promote green sustainable living. It is our small community's effort to be the local stewards of one of the earth's most cherished places.
