Sarasota County’s numerous green resources can now accurately be described as being all over the map — the Sarasota County Green Map®, that is. Already famed for its beautiful beaches and culture, the area is also cultivating a rich collection of environmentally-friendly activities, organizations and facilities. Those resources can now be searched at www.scgov.net/greenmap.
The Sarasota County Green Map is an effort to highlight Sarasota County’s many sustainability features and encourage citizens and visitors to take advantage of these opportunities. As such, it will serve as a central, geographically-focused resource to assist individuals in their efforts to live more sustainably and as assets accrue, could contribute to a sense of Sarasota being a “green” place.
SCOPE and their mapmaking partners at Sarasota County Government hope the interactive mapping tool will raise awareness of sustainable living issues and give residents and seasonal visitors a fun, easy way to find locally available green activities, organizations and facilities. At launch, the map’s focus will be in six key areas: eco-business and commerce, energy and green building, natural attractions, community agriculture and assets, recycling and waste disposal and alternative transportation
Among other things, this tool will enable residents to find a place to buy local produce, locate a green hotel for their guests, or to check out the number of solar installations in their neighborhood. As a community tool, the Sarasota County Green Map will, overtime, grow and change based on feedback from citizens.
