We don't yet know the full extent of the unprecedented disaster in Japan but our hearts go out to each impacted person and their communities. Our network includes 70 Japanese cities and towns, and we want to assure you that many participants have let us know they are OK - stunned but doing OK, thankfully. With so much being lost in an instant, and so much uncertainty about the future, we hope community life can become more resilient. We have begun to discuss how Green Mapmaking can help in the recovery effort – let us know if you would like to know more about this or wish to offer help directly to some of our exemplary projects in Japan.
This feeling of wanting to pitch in and do all we can magnifies the importance of our network’s efforts since 1995 – giving people the means to highlight local resources for more ecologically-sound, climate-smart and healthier living, including local food, energy generation, low impact mobility and collaboration.
To support so many different people and situations, we continue to create ways to support discussion, research and communications in multiple formats. This includes mobile tools, and we are pleased that ours have been nominated for 2011's Treehugger Best of Green Reader's Choice Award in the Science and Technology category. Please vote for us and share this by email, Twitter or Facebook:
On your mobile, add or explore green sites with @GreenMap. Nominated Best Eco App @TreeHugger! Vote today http://bit.ly/dFBjQM
Our apps are really useful, even in this early stage of development. We've just added the ability to add sites to Open Green Maps on either the mobile site (click GreenMap.org) or the Green Map iPhone App, so please suggest your favorite green spots as you visit them. We would like your help so please vote this week, until April 1 - there’s no need to register. Thanks for helping us get the word out.
We are also in a second contest, where you can vote everyday until March 27 to help us win $25,000 - http://bit.ly/ARCgms. Thanks for pitching in!
Green Maps reveal a landscape of hope in difficult times. With your help, we can continually reach, motivate and uplift more people each day, helping each lead the way to a better future for all.
