Brooklyn USA 02

Brooklyn's Story 2002 describes the creation of Go Green NYC, a Green Map created by young people ages 12-17, in conjunction with the North Brooklyn Recycle-A-Bicycle. The initial goal that spurred the creation of this map was to encourage more of NYC's young people to use healthy, non-polluting ways to get around the city. The mapmaking team researched NYC’s bike riding conditions, finding that there were many infrastructural and environmental obstacles keeping this city from being bike friendly. The Go Green NYC map was meant to bring attention to this issue, and to generate dialogue about solutions that will help balance the use of the city's streets. Besides bikes, the Mapmakers also charted other forms of public transportation, including The Brooklyn Trolley Project, ferries to Staten Island and Hoboken, among others.
