About the Map:

Dubai Green Map is a primary effort toward highlighting and promoting green living and practices among citizens, residents and tourists of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. United Arab Emirates plays a vital and impressive role in the region, by adopting and promoting humanitarian and environmental acts and practices. For several decades, leaders of the country gave all effort to protect the environment for future generations, and dedicated all available resources to promote environment sustainability education and practices among their people and the international society. Dubai is turning green; in fact, during the last few years of the city urban development, through all aspects, many steps and measures have been taken by authorities, proving their environmental concerns, and interest in environment sustainability, protection and contribution to the world combat against climate changes. Dubai is a unique city, very rich and diversified in population nationalities, cultures and interests. Its geographic location and insightful rulers' futuristic vision made it a strategic crossroad between East and West, and a civilizations blending place as well. Dubai Green Map project is intended to draw the attention of people living in Dubai and its visitors, to the importance of many Green sites and attractions of the city, the need to expand Green areas and applications, and the positive impacts of Green practices over the city’s environment and future generations healthy and sustainable living. Green Maps of other parts of the country will hopefully follow in the near future.

About the Map:

Coming to the of Thailand's National Park Year we produced this map because we feel that you should know the current state of Thailand's remaining forests. This map is to be published annually and your recommendations just may be listed on the next publication. Thailand's National Park Green Map was published in January 2001, and this remote sensing aerial photo map covered the widest area of any Green Map to date! With text in both Thai and English, many interesting details about the country's parks and natural heritage are highlighted. A student competition was held to design the cover. There were 152,000 copies of the map (both folding maps and posters) published and distributed to schools, in the Sunday Bangkok Post, to new car owners, and through tourist information. In 2002, even more copies were distributed! This project is led by David Tarrant, eco-tourism specialist with Project Eco Co. Ltd., along with several supporters and the Thai Green Network Foundation. The draft version was presented to the public at the World Environment Day Exhibition at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre on June 5, 2000. In July 2002, this project sponsored workshops and meetings coinciding with a visit from Green Map System's director and education outreach specialist. 30 eco-educators gathered to discuss potential new projects. In 2005, Thailand Environment Institute took on the project - marvelous things have happened!

About the Map:

A Web Based Green Map This isn’t just a Map, this is your connection to an interactive web based Green Map of Calgary and an inventory of places, spaces and much more. Sustainable Calgary has put the Green Map on its website: The online Calgary Green Map is a “Google mash-up”, essentially a Google Map fused with Green Map sites and pictures. On this site you can navigate by zooming in or out or by panning around just like you would in a normal Google Map environment. The cool thing about the online Green Map is that you can get detailed information about each Green Map site by clicking on it to expose pictures, directions, and information about the site. As opposed to a “hard copy” Green Map that gets printed annually, the online Green Map can be constantly and easily updated. We believe as more people become exposed and involved with the Green Map, it will evolve into a dynamic living map. New sites will be added and/or edited and the resulting map will serve as a jump off point for future discussion on “Green” issues.

About the Map:

Nishinomiya-kofu senior high school students charted their campus and the city of Nishinomiya and Imazu Area. On Nov. 9th, 2002, the Nishinomiya Green Map was displayed at Nishinomiya Kofu Senior High School's Cultural Festival. Using the Nishinomiya Green Map as a reference, the "Geographic Information" class was able to reproduce it in a digital format and available in a website.

About the Map:

The map was made at the planning department of Mönsterås municipality. It is a pilot map, quick and dirty in order to present Mönsterås to possible new residents and visitors in a new way. One of the goals is to formulate a follow-up project based on the response. We came up with the idea on march 31st. We registered on april 3rd. The map was ready on april 25th. So it was made in 22 days.... The official publication date is 3rd may 2008. We focused on these themes because we had information available about them. We are planning on making follow-up maps with different themes (tourist map e.g.)

Advice to other Mapmakers:

Fellow municipal workers. It takes only a few enthousiasts to make such a map. Start simple and easy. Make a pilot product and determine afterwards how to proceed. With such a process can you get more and more people involved. I have tried it the other way, workshopping my behind of to get support and funding, shopping around the idea for 7 years without any luck. If the time is not right, focus on something else. There is plenty to do. Just keep your eyes open for the right opportunity. Pepijn

About the Map:

This map is our first attempt to publish our green sites online, and we are happy to do so by using the OpenGreenMap test site. We hope that putting our sites up there will inspire the community to add more by pointing out what we have missed (suggest a site through our website www.rocklandgreenmap.org). At this point we think publishing a map online only is the most environmental and practical alternative, but we are also planning a poster map for outreach and display. If we find the time and possibly a volunteer designer (web or map/graphic) we think we can get a map out this summer. About Rockland County Rockland County is part of the suburban regions around NY City where you get the best out of two worlds; the close proximity to the city is balanced with the vast expanses of park and farmland. Rockland County has the second largest state park, Harriman, and has a good amount of green space considering it is so close to the city and considering it is a small county. However, this region currently experiences population growth, which puts pressure on the existing green areas, undeveloped land, and infrastructure. We think a green map here would inspire people to take care of our green resources.
