An important part of our work involves meeting potential partners and helping people get ‘up to speed’ with our tools. In 2013, visitors from A to Z have been in our New York office – quite literally including five Albanian mayors on a US study tour and a group of Zambian tourism officials who will be hosting the United Nations World Tourism Organization conference this fall.

Albania, Egypt, Estonia, Morocco, St. Lucia, United Arab Emirates all joined us, plus there are foreign students mapping with community members in Viet Nam and Ethiopia, too! It’s been so exciting to see our network surpass the 800 project milestone. As of today, we have reached 842 registered Green Map projects in 68 countries! read more »

This year has been one of solid growth and development for Green Map System. We are now impacting 840 communities in 65 countries, and we could not do it without your help! Your tax-deductible donations make all the difference, especially at this time.

Going forward, our focus highlights program collaboration, data sharing and tools development that help each of us work more effectively to accelerate the system change we need to address the threat of climate change. We have collected inspiring best practices from our global network that will soon be shared. Locally in New York City, we’ve already begun mapping the aftermath of Sandy and generating a new conversation in the community. And early in 2013 we will debut new resources that benefit both the users and makers of Green Maps.

This year, instead of mailing out our appeal, we are saving paper and encouraging you to donate online at GreenMap.org/donate or by phone at +1 212 674 1631. Of course, it’s fine to mail a check. Our sincere thanks to you and everyone who has contributed to making our year so great!

Or, better yet, come to our cozy holiday party on Wednesday December 19, here at our office at 220A East 4th Street, NYC 10009. It’s not a fundraiser per se, but your support is welcome. Details are here.

We look forward to seeing you at the party and again in the coming year.

Dear friends

It’s with sadness that we tell you our Archive and Website launch event on November 13 has been postponed. Lingering effects of Superstorm Sandy related to our transit system are impacting the library. We're disappointed but otherwise OK at Green Map System. We’ll soon be announcing a new date for the New York Public Library Map Room public debut of our Archive.

However, you can already explore our new local website at GreenMapNYC.org. This website is a comprehensive guide to all of Green Map System’s New York maps, partnerships and events throughout the five boroughs. Designed by OTTO NY and Oceanic, thanks to DesigNYC’s matchmaking, it has been exciting to share this new website with the world.

Save the Date – our Plan B Holiday Party will take place at our office on Wednesday December 19 from 6-9 PM. All welcome – 220A East 4th Street, between Avenues A and B in the East Village.

We also invite you to join us on this informative ride:

At Green Map System, we don't think it’s enough to map the predicted impacts of climate change on New York City - we also help guide people to everyday ways to reduce the emissions that destabilize the climate and taint our environment. Our organization’s East Village neighborhood, having just endured Superstorm Sandy, provides a clear picture of what many millions of us will face as the oceans warm and storms strike harder.

In Appreciation

Thank YOU!
