The Wheeling Jesuit University Green Maps project will be integrated into the Professional Education Department Educational Technology course as an example of a locally-made map that highlights the social, cultural, and sustainable resources of this community.

I am integrating the Green Map project into my Educational Technology course for the Wheeling Jesuit University teacher preparation program because I want to provide the opportunity and vehicle for my students to experience a community-focused, open source, geospatial technology tool. Wheeling Jesuit offers many types of community-based, service learning experiences for students. The Green Map program provides a way for pre-service teachers to learn how to use Green Map tools and icons to document service learning missions and events. An attractive component of the Green Map program is that the community projects documented can include narrative text, photos, background and links to social, cultural, and sustainable service projects worldwide.
