The purpose of this effort is two fold.
1. To teach the youth in the community the importance of mapping using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
2. There are several efforts in the Public, Private and the Non Profit sector of City of Decatur that helps towards building a sustainable community. However, these efforts are currently un-coordinated. There is no one place the residents of the community can go to find all the information related to sustainability. City has recently started an effort called "Sustainable Decatur". This effort is aimed to co-ordinate all the ongoing efforts in the City. This Green Maps project will play a big role in "Sustainable Decatur".
