Green Mapmakers of Tororo Uganda have started a tree planting project. Tree planting is not taken seriously by most people in Tororo, instead a lot of trees are being cut down for both domestic and commercial use without planting more trees to replace the one cut down.
As an action plan, we have started a tree planting project of which we have so far raised 2000 seedlings of Eucalyptus and also rented three acres of land from the district forest land reservoir.
People who want to develop this land into an artificial forest; the district forest officer rents the land out. We have selected to plant Eucalyptus trees because they are fast growing, have many useful uses and will help improve on the air quality too.
We intend to start clearing of the land for tree planting in early November 2007 and to complete the project in mid June 2008.
We are in need of some assistance to help us implement this project.
The Mapmakers would like help building a fish farm that will provide locally-grown food, jobs and training in ecological management techniques.
Also, the Tororo Green Map Project are in need of some assistance to help us implement the Tree Planting Project.
