About the Map:

The Icelandic Green Map is a joint international project of Nature.is the Green Map Systems project, and the University of Iceland. The Icelandic Green Map is based on the Green Map universal icon system, and the extensive work of Nature.is in registering various sources on its Green Pages and supplying the map with a massive database of eco-friendly information on Icelandic business and tourism. The map is published in Icelandic on http://www.natturan.is/greenmap/ and in English on http://www.nature.is/greenmap/ along with the enormous amount of information already displayed on the site. The map covers Iceland complete with all it's cities and towns as well as rural areas.

About the Map:

Nishinomiya-kofu senior high school students charted their campus and the city of Nishinomiya and Imazu Area. On Nov. 9th, 2002, the Nishinomiya Green Map was displayed at Nishinomiya Kofu Senior High School's Cultural Festival. Using the Nishinomiya Green Map as a reference, the "Geographic Information" class was able to reproduce it in a digital format and available in a website.

About the Map:

Translation in progress En junio de 1998 se celebró en La Habana, la Conferencia Internacional “Ética y Cultura del Desarrollo Sostenible: Construyendo una economía sostenible” convocada por la Oficina Regional de la UNESCO, el Comité de Servicios de Amigos Americanos, (Estados Unidos) y el Centro Félix Várela (Cuba), en la que la señora Wendy Brawer fundadora y directora del Diseño del Mundo Moderno y del Sistemas de Mapas Verdes (Green Map Systems, GMS), presentó una ponencia sobre los Mapas Verdes como promotores del ordenamiento ecológico en los habitantes urbanos y como vía para estimular el descubrimiento personal de los eco–recursos por parte de niños, jóvenes y adultos en sus comunidades. En 1999, comienza a gestarse el proyecto Mapa Verde con el objetivo de propiciar una herramienta de educación y gestión ambiental que promueva el desarrollo de comunidades sustentables. El mismo se realiza con la colaboración del Centro Félix Varela y el Centro de Cultura Comunitaria con el Green Map System. jóvenes y niños del municipio Habana Vieja y de la Ciudad de Holguín dan inicio simultáneamente a este proyecto en Cuba. Al año siguiente, el Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática con un grupo de estudiantes del municipio 10 de Octubre se suma a esta idea. Para su organización se estructuro una red que esta integrada por mas de mil personas en todas las provincias del país de todas las edades, sexo y raza, procedentes de escuelas primarias, secundarias, institutos tecnologicos, universidades, centros de investigación y barrios. La actividad ha sido exitosa en algunas comunidades, pues en los ha logrado que sus miembros se sensibilicen con el quehacer del mapa y han recibido beneficios a favor de su transformación como los casos de rescate de centros histórico culturales y áreas deportivas para el disfrute de los comunitarios; la eliminación de micro vertederos; el mejoramiento de las áreas verdes, la recuperación de áreas forestales, creación de establecimientos para brindar servicios a la comunidad.

About the Map:

We are a team of environmental investigators for the "Space to Breath" mapmaking project. We know a lot of kids and grown-ups with asthma. So we decided to become environmental investigators. Through our research it became clear that New York City needs cleaner air. It also became clear that there's a whole lot we can do to help. Air pollution is a problem all over the world, but we can also see how it affects the people in our own communities. We learned that this situation is very serious, but it is not hopeless. We learned that there are many ways that we can help make things better.

A map created by a children's ecological club as a summer project. In the process, children set out to discover their community and met with both pleasant and unpleasant surprise, therefore, two maps were created and presented on this "treasure hunting map". One is of Green map which shows all the environmentally friendly sites and their favorite places or the secret gardens; the other, "the black skull map", shows all the sites that require improvement.
