About the Map:

Forth Valley Food Links (FVFL) is producing a 2nd edition of the successful ‘Find it, Eat it’ – A directory of local food in Forth Valley. The directory will cover the three Unitary Authority areas of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling in Central Scotland, although there are opportunities to include food producers in neighbouring authorities such as Fife and Perthshire. The directory, funded by Falkirk Environment Trust and Stirling Coucnil's Green Force Grant Scheme, will focus on local food producers and growers, caterers, processors, hoteliers, retailers, community projects and individuals, who produce, process, sell and serve fresh food originating within Forth Valley, to the local market. The project is being developed with Action for Change, CVS Clackmannanshire and Forward Scotland. FVFL will lead the project, draw partners together,fundraise, manage the contractors, liaise with potential listings, compile the listings information, and design the website and printed map. Forward Scotland has offered initial advice about web development. CVS Clackmannanshire and Action for Change will advise on the Green Map System links, and links to the Clackmannanshire Green Maps Initiative, and design the local food map icons. There are environmental, social, economic and health spin-offs anticipated from use of the directory:- • The directory will highlight, and be a good promotional tool for the local food sector. • Food is central to everyone’s life but the natural connection between the consumer and the producer has become lost in recent years. Consumers will be better informed about, and have a greater awareness and understanding of the origin and production methods of the food that they eat • Collaborative working, and links between producers and consumers will be enhanced • There will be a greater flow of information, communication and networking between the various components of the food chain to help grow what is a currently under-developed local food sector in Forth Valley • Increased demand and consumption of fresh local produce will help improve diets and diet-related health issues. Consumption of local food is more likely to contain higher nutrient levels due to shortening the time and distance between harvest and consumption, and less chemical treatment to help preserve them. • Greater demand will also encourage producers to increase their levels of cultivation of fruit and vegetables, which will enhance greater biodiversity in the area. Less intensive production practices and low input growing of fruit and vegetables will help reduce potential risks from agro-chemicals. • Increased demand for local produce will also result in less waste engendered through packaging and less pollution through long distance transporting of goods. In addition, the demand for more ‘home grown’ meat products will encourage improved animal welfare through less transportation of animals. • The resource will assist tourists and visitors to the area to source locally-produced food. • An increase in the purchase of locally-produced food will help bring more money into the local economy The team will start to develop the Green Map in August 2008 and run through until March 2009.

The Icelandic Green Map is a joint international project of Nature.is the Green Map Systems project, and the University of Iceland. The Icelandic Green Map is based on the Green Map universal icon system, and the extensive work of Nature.is in registering various sources on its Green Pages and supplying the map with a massive database of eco-friendly information on Icelandic business and tourism. The map is published in Icelandic on http://www.natturan.is/greenmap/ and in English on http://www.nature.is/greenmap/ along with the enormous amount of information already displayed on the site. The map covers Iceland complete with all it's cities and towns as well as rural areas.

G.Map@Dali was Dali Global Village Eco-Tourism(DGVET) first GREENMAP project to try to promote GREEN awareness thru the icons to the locals. Being overwhelmed by massive GREEN slogans and advetisments locally. We have to link the message onto the world here. Dali was the first stop on the main chinese tourists route in westrn Yunnan. Nested at the foot of Mt Cang beside Lake Er at 2000m, the Ancient City of Dali had been around for more then 2000 years. Being the main city on the Southern Silk Road (aka Burma Trail), the city was now still filled by travellers from all over the world in the booming travel industry. With the immense growth in domestic & foreign tourists, along brought much to be dealt with in, the limited capacity to process the remains left by the millions. to what extend? we'll be extending & beyond...

LaSalle Gardens (Montreal) - Summer 2008 The Sustainable Development Corporation with ECO411 put forward the concepts of relational economy in this project which looks to demonstrate how Community Economic Development can thrive on 'indigenous' (derived from the Latin meaning 'self-generating') resources by helping communities recapture their food spending dollars in an Asset Based Community Ecological-Economic Development ABCDE model. Through the petitions of support for local economy, human ressource cataloguing and mapping (through the OGM) we will keep track of families looking to invest buying power in local distributors of essential goods, along with local grocery stores and restaurants who wish to embark in this evolved consumer association. In a community of over 2000 citizens, we seeka participation of a 100 residences (signatories). This amount can recapture approximately 750,000 food spending dollars to re-channel in a frequent buyer's program that can implicate a % family discount plus share interest redeemable in products. This project is coordinated by Douglas F. Jack. Technical support is provided by Olivier Kolmel. And new to our team we welcome Tara Mather, from University of Texas at Austin, who is operating as field agent.

About the Map:

A Web Based Green Map This isn’t just a Map, this is your connection to an interactive web based Green Map of Calgary and an inventory of places, spaces and much more. Sustainable Calgary has put the Green Map on its website: The online Calgary Green Map is a “Google mash-up”, essentially a Google Map fused with Green Map sites and pictures. On this site you can navigate by zooming in or out or by panning around just like you would in a normal Google Map environment. The cool thing about the online Green Map is that you can get detailed information about each Green Map site by clicking on it to expose pictures, directions, and information about the site. As opposed to a “hard copy” Green Map that gets printed annually, the online Green Map can be constantly and easily updated. We believe as more people become exposed and involved with the Green Map, it will evolve into a dynamic living map. New sites will be added and/or edited and the resulting map will serve as a jump off point for future discussion on “Green” issues.
