Hook Productions is a City Parks Foundation educational program that operates out of the Red Hook Recreational Center. The program provides audio-video production and technology training for High School aged youth. This summer, City Parks Foundation’s Catalyst project has added a new “green mapping” component to Hook Productions’ usual program of multimedia, media literacy, and new media training.

An educator will lead six Hook Productions students in the green map project that will introduce the students to issues of sustainability and environmentalism in Red Hook. She will work with youth participants, encouraging them to take an in-depth look at the green spaces, waterfront, and greenway in Red Hook.

The objective of this project is to create a youth vision for the future of Red Hook parks and green space. Facilitating processes of community visioning in Red Hook is one of the goals of Partnerships for Parks’ Red Hook Catalyst program, a project partner.

As a final product, the students will create an Internet-based participatory map that includes site icons, site photographs, video interviews with community members, and written site descriptions documenting the past, present and future of Red Hook green space.
