Visitors to the Keweenaw are struck by the peninsula’s rugged natural beauty and awesome presence of Lake Superior. Residents are increasingly mindful of the need to protect and preserve this special place on the planet.

With the support of Finlandia University, the SKRC exists to provide an online and on–the–ground resource network to connect individuals, organizations, institutions, and businesses working towards a sustainable Keweenaw. A Keweenaw Green Map is a natural progression of the SKRC’s activities and a timely addition to the network.

The Keweenaw Peninsula is located at latitude 47 degrees in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It encompasses both Keweenaw and Houghton Counties, which have a combined population of 38,000 people, including many seasonal residents. The peninsula spans an area approximately 60 miles long and 15 miles wide, and has 120 miles of shoreline.
