Rishon Lezion is one of the largest cities in Israel in terms of population (230,000) and territory (59 sq. km.). Established in 1882 between the sand dunes of the coastal plain. The mass of immigrants in the 1990’s initiated a boom of urbanization and development that turned the city into the fourth largest in the country, but during that process some of Rishon’s special qualities where left behind. Among those qualities are the sand dunes, the ‘bustans’ and the old city core. Before it leaps into the next decade, Rishon has to find it’s natural and historical unique features – and show them to its residents to use and to keep. Green map is the way to strengthen the special qualities of the city and change wrong attitudes - all working towards a more sustainable city. The SPNI operates over 50 years countrywide to keep what is worth keeping of our values and to promote a greener future. The city council of Rishon Lezion is promoting lately a few green initiatives in the old city center. Hopefully together we can establish a Green map to make a greener vision for the city.
