Transition Edinburgh South follows the transition model to inspire and facilitate the work of our local communities in the South of the city of Edinburgh (about 40 000 people) to lower their carbon footprint and increase their resilience and sustainability to the effects of peak oil and gas and climate change in a creative way. We are here to enable and support ideas aiming to make our community more fit for the future. Our volunteers' led group is currently currently engaged in several sustainability projects including energy efficiency in pre 1900 tenements, community gardens and other outreach projects in our local community. To support our outreach activities ee have just started a community mapping exercise in our local area.

The Transition Edinburgh South Green Map project is one of the initiatives conducted by our outreach project' Reaching out'. We are focussing on the development of participatory approaches to sustainability in our local area and are planning to consult local residents to map the local resources and barriers to sustainability in two areas of South Edinburgh initially, with a focus on transport, waste, local food, water, energy efficiency and community resources for sustainability. The initial consultation with the local community will be used to find out more in depth information about the needs and wishes of local residents, the existing resources in the community and to consult with local stakeholders to further the development of sustsinability and quality of life in South Edinburgh
