About this Map

In Ontario, Canada there is a Green Map project started up by Manager David Alexander, GIS Tech Nathan Hercanuck, and Project Assistant Alison Sivers, of the Regional Municipality of Niagara as part of the Niagara Water Quality Protection Strategy (NWQPS) partnership. Supported by Cartographer John Docker, the map was published in 2003 as part of the overall communications work of the NWQPS by featuring the significant geographic and human features across the regional group of watersheds on the Canadian side of the Niagara River. A large scale map graces one side and the reverse tells various stories for residents and visitors including the use of historical images to help map users understand the formation of the watersheds, some historical features, and the sustainability issues in context. A wonderful map! This project led to further conversations on water-related issues in the Niagara area and underscored the continuing need for dialog on sustainable development.
